Build 41 let you plant whenever. Build 42 gives every crop a sow window, and planting outside it fails the crop — the sources agree on the outcome, differing only in wording (“cursed”, “hostile months”). Three more rules ride on top:

• Winter is a wall. December through February curses every crop on its first day unless it is cold hardy.
• Water has a floor, not a target range you can ignore. The min-water column below is the level under which growth stalls or the plant dies; overwatering is its own damage, per the community write-ups.
• Growth advances in phases with small random offsets (up to roughly 12 hours per phase), and the days column assumes the default Farming Speed 1.0 sandbox setting — raise that setting and the displayed days shrink.
• Harvesting what you planted is the XP source. Plowing, sowing, weeding, watering and fertilizing earn nothing, so a cursed planting is a wasted month, not just a wasted seed.

All three write-ups agree that an out-of-window planting fails, and that winter curses everything except the cold-hardy set above. What they do not agree on is the arithmetic behind it:

• One site frames it as a curse roll at plant time, chances reported between 50% and 5% as Agriculture level rises, plus a note that carrots and kale pick up bad-month resistance at late growth phases.
• The community wiki frames it as hostile months feeding a plant-health score alongside drought, overwatering, weeds, slugs and disease.
• A third guide describes the same systems without either number.

So this page prints the rule, not the percentages: inside the window you are safe, outside it you are gambling, and in December–February only the seven cold-hardy crops are worth sowing. Fertilizer follows the same caution — one source reports that a first dose helps, a second hurts and a third can curse the plant outright.
